Our constitution says that the elected legislators will choose their leader in the assembly. Keeping this in view, the directive by the top BJP leadership to Vasundhara Raje to quit her post as the leader of the opposition is totally unconstitutional.Such dictatorial policies violate the basic tenet of our democracy.
How did the central leadership of the BJP come to the conclusion that the people of Rajasthan no longer support the former CM? Almost everyone I have spoken to in Rajasthan says that the Vasundhara Raje government did an excellent job during its tenure. She solved two most important problems – water and electricity in most areas. The reason for the BJP’s defeat in the state was the reservation stir by the Gujjars and the shifting of the votes of the community to Congress.
If the BJP’s top brass wants to pin the blame for its debacle then it should first start at the top. Rajnath Singh does not have the charisma to lead India’s second biggest political party. Advani is too old and must retire. If the party wants to survive it must bring in a leader who can counter Rahul Gandhi as he is being portrayed as the next Prime Minister of India.
